Tinga Tinga Masks
Tuesday Morning Activity
Tinga Tinga Masks:
Using paper masks and paint, students will create wearable masks in the Tinga Tinga art style. Originating in Tanzania, this decorative, beautiful art style exaggerates the markings of animals in repetitive marks and colours. Students will apply this style of art to paper animal masks in tempera paint with a focus on brush work and colour choice. Masks will be finished with paint markers and daubers.
No previous experience necessary. Students will be guided through every step of the process!
Please note: The photos shown above are from a previous mask building class. We will be doing different masks in a completely different style.
In this 3 hour session, students will have the opportunity to use Cloud Clay and Model Magic to create cartoon like characters. This session will teach students about base shapes and how they are used to create many different characters. They will learn how artists roll and size clay to create even amounts and how to use different clay tools. They will also learn how to condition and create custom colour clays. Finally, they will create a character with step-by-step real time instruction by the art teacher.
No previous experience necessary. Students will be guided through every step of the process! Finished pieces will have to dry at home.
Please note: The photos shown above are from a previous modeling class. We will be doing different characters in a similar style.
