For the Week Starting Monday September 25 2017

Fall 2017 Activities

Our next Art for Adults class will be held on Thursday October 5 2017 at 7 pm if you would like to join us. We will be continuing with watercolour techniques or art journaling. Ages 18+ no experience necessary and all materials provided.

Registration for our fall season is well underway! Classes start this Friday Sep 22 2017 (Art Fundamentals and Teen) and Saturday Sep 23 2017 (Intro to Art, Art Fundamentals and Portfolio Prep). Class size is limited.

Please note that we do not have a class for the October 6-8 Long Weekend or the weekend of November 17 and 18 2017 (due to road closures for downtown activities). Our last classes will be November 24th and 25th.

All registration is now online. The new registration system will require you to create an account with a username and password. It will then ask you to add a child to the account and then you can register for the class. Please note that you will only have to do this once and then you will have access to all of the courses that your child has taken. Please note that the date of birth of your child is important as the registration system will accept or reject a registration based on the child's age.

If the course has been sold out, the registration system will tell you. We can put you on a waiting list for cancellations if this occurs.

Some parents have been concerned about receiving their sibling discount. You must contact us for the discount code. You will need to register both students at the same time if you want the discount code to work. If you have registered students separately, or have missed your discount code, please just let us know before the first class and we will make sure that you are refunded the discount.

If you have any trouble with the registration system, please contact us by email and we will help you through it.

What is Tangle?

This term is used to describe decorative design drawings known for their detail and repetitive shapes. Zentangle is a popular form of this drawing. Although we do not follow the Zentangle way of drawing, we enjoy drawing geometric and organic designs in marker too. If you would like to see an example of Tangle drawing, click here.

The Teen Tangle class will also include dipped pen and ink drawing such as hatching and cross-hatching and the use of brush markers.

What is Art Journaling?

Although most people are familiar with writing in a journal or diary, some may not be familiar with a visual art journal. For visual learners, as most artistic people are, expressing ourselves in words may not come as easily as expressing ourselves in colour, shape and line. Art journals are a very popular, relaxing way of expressing yourself through pictures and words. Most journals are a book of some sort. We will be using a hardcover blank book. Students will first create a colourful background using different types of paints. Then they will add layers of borders in inks with stamps and stencils and a boundary area to write a message if they so choose.
