In this visual arts program, we explore the Elements of Art through process and project-based art activities. We also enjoy learning about different art materials each week.

Each course has its own theme. All activities revolve around this theme.

Each course consists of eight, 1-hour classes. In every class, we explore one or more of the Elements of Art.

For example, Theme #1 People. In this course, we explore the Elements of Art (Line, shape, colour, value, form, space, and texture) with activities related in some way to People. We draw people, paint people, do paper art with people etc. Each course has its own set of lesson plans and we find that the themes help parents to remember which courses their children have taken.

Please be assured that although our projects may change, we will continue to explore the same elements of drawing, painting, sculpting and printmaking, as real artists do.

In addition, some of our classes will focus on the process of art instead of the finished project. This is especially important for younger students that are still getting to know different art materials. This simply means that although instruction will be given for a specific project (how to use the materials and how to make the project, including a demonstration) the students are then allowed to explore the materials and use them as they see fit. So do not expect a masterpiece from every class -- just expect them to enjoy what they are producing!
